Skin Testing Instruments – Biox Systems, UK

Biox Systems is a leading developer and manufacturer of research-grade scientific instruments for the analysis of bio-tissues such as skin, hair, and nails. In 2000, the company was spun out from the London South Bank University (LSBU), with backing from the London Business Innovation Center (LBIC). The company was started by Prof. Bob Imhof with a vision to make use of the cutting-edge technology developed in LSBU’s Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Communications (formerly the Photophysics Research Centre).

Bob was the ex-head of the Skin Bioengineering Research Centre of LSBU. After retiring from the university in 2009, he has dedicated his entire time for research and development (R&D) in Biox Systems. He was the inventor of the AquaFlux which is one of the flagship instruments in Biox’s line-up.

Aquaflux- TEWL Measurement

Epsilon- corneometry instrument

Instrument line-up

Biox Systems manufactures two instruments popular worldwide for measuring different parameters of skin. The patented technology employed in these instruments enable them to be a cut above the rest in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, repeatability, and reproducibility. The major advantage with the instruments from Biox Systems is that the number of samples required for a comprehensive idea of the result is much lesser when compared to other instruments claiming to have similar functionalities. This makes instruments from Biox Systems a preferred choice in research projects and R&D laboratories where accuracy is of primary importance.

TEWL meter – AquaFlux AF200

The AquaFlux is a high-precision instrument for measuring the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) of skin. With its unique patented technology, it addresses the pitfalls faced in open and closed-chamber TEWL measuring instruments. The condenser in the instrument constantly converts the evaporated water vapour into ice. The AquaFlux outperforms all its competitors in terms of performance which makes it the preferred instrument for measuring TEWL.

corneometry Instrument – Epsilon E100

The Epsilon is a contact imaging system that simultaneously provides images and skin hydration data. The instrument works based on capacitance and is suitable for both in-vivo and in-vitro analysis. The Epsilon provides a linear and calibrated response in which every pixel in the image corresponds to a reproducible measurement that can be interpreted in terms of hydration.
