GLOSS METERS

3nh Gloss Meters

3nh Technology Co., Ltd. is a pioneer in the fields of gloss measurement, colour assessment and solutions. One of their flagship product lines is their digital gloss meters. All 3nh gloss meters are manufactured in accordance with international standards such as ISO 2813, ASTM D523 and GB/T 9754. In addition to being economical, 3nh offers a wide range of gloss meters, allowing users to choose a model based on their specific application and measurement requirements. The range includes multiple variants of single-angle and multi-angle gloss meters, catering to a wide variety of industries.

SINGLE ANGLE GLOSS METERS

MULTI-ANGLE GLOSS METERS

Single Angle Gloss Meters

3nh produce five models that measure gloss at a single angle, 60°. Each model varies in terms of measuring range, division value, repeatability, reproducibility, and so on. While the basic models such as YG60S and YG60 have to be operated by means of buttons, the more advanced models such as HG60S, HG60, NHG60, and NHG60M comes with a larger display with recharagable-type batteries. Most models are accompanied by GQC6 QC software that makes it easy to print test reports and some other functionalities.

The single-angle models, preferred for straightforward gloss measurement applications, measure gloss at 60°.

Multi-Angle Gloss Meters

For certain special applications, you might require gloss meters which can record GU at angles other than 60°. To satisfy such applications, 3nh has a range of tri angle gloss meters that can measure the GU at 20°, 60°, and 85°.

The basic model, YG268, is economical and can be operated by means of buttons built onto the instrument. The more advanced models such as HG268 and NHG268 are more sophisticated and have a built-in touch screen that can be used for easy operation of the instrument.

Multi-angle models provide gloss values in 20°, 60°, and 85°, making them suitable for measuring high-, semi-, and low-gloss surfaces as per international standards such as ISO 2813 and ASTM D523 and other industrial recognized standards.

Gloss Meter Calibration

Calibration of gloss meters is a must to make sure that the readings are consistent. All models of 3nh gloss meters come with built-in self calibration tiles. 3nh gloss meters can be calibrated by the click of a button. Care must be taken to maintain the calibration tile free from dust, scratches, and fingerprints. As soon as calibration is done, the instrument would be ready for measuring gloss. It is advisable to perform calibration once in every few days or weeks based on the frequency of usage.

NABL Calibration is also available for Gloss Meter and this can be done yearly.

Gloss Meter Applications

Gloss is an important parameter of visual perception and plays a significant role in determining the appearance, aesthetics, and perceived quality of a wide range of products and materials. Gloss measurement is not only used to evaluate the visual appeal of a surface, but also to maintain consistency between batches and components, monitor finishing quality, and assess changes in gloss caused by environmental exposure and weathering.

To objectively measure and monitor these characteristics, gloss meters are indispensable quality-control instruments across many industries, some of which include:

Gloss Meter For Stones & Tiles

Gloss meters are widely used in the stone industry such as marble, granite, ceramics, and other precious stones to evaluate surface finish and achieve a high-gloss appearance that enhances the premium aesthetics of the material. They are also commonly used by vitrified tile manufacturers, bathware and sanitaryware manufacturers, quartz manufacturers, abrasives suppliers, and polishing companies to assess and optimize the quality of their finishing and polishing processes.

In addition, gloss meters are used by maintenance departments in premium hotels, airports, shopping malls, and other commercial facilities to monitor and maintain the high-gloss finish and aesthetic appearance of polished surfaces.

For these applications, a single-angle 60° Gloss Meter is generally suitable for evaluating and controlling surface gloss. In certain ceramic industries a 45° Gloss Meter is used.

Gloss Meter For Paints

Gloss meters are widely used in both industrial and decorative paint industries to evaluate and control the appearance and surface finish of painted products.

In industrial applications, they are commonly used for automotive paints, powder coatings, corrosion-resistant coatings, and other industrial finishes. Gloss values help assess paint quality, raw material and process consistency, and maintain uniform visual appearance in mass-produced products. They also help ensure that components manufactured by different vendors have the same specified gloss level.

For industrial paints, a tri-angle gloss meter is generally preferred as it can measure low, semi-gloss, and high-gloss surfaces using 85°, 60°, and 20° angles, respectively, as per international standards.

In decorative paints, gloss measurement is important for achieving the desired high-gloss, premium, and visually appealing finish.

Gloss Meter For Plastics

Plastics have diverse applications, ranging from injection-molded components for automotive and home appliances to plastic films, extruded PVC, and UPVC panels. In the automotive and home appliance industries, gloss measurement helps maintain consistent appearance across batches and ensure uniformity between different components.

In the PVC and UPVC industries, achieving a high-gloss surface is particularly important for enhancing aesthetics and providing a premium appearance, similar to granite, marble, tiles, and decorative paint finishes.

Other Gloss Meter Applications

In addition to the common applications mentioned above, gloss meters are also widely used in industries such as textiles and leather, decals, packaging and printing, films, and paper to evaluate surface appearance and finish.

In industries such as paints, plastics, and UPVC, gloss is also measured after UV exposure using a UV Weatherometer to evaluate changes in surface appearance, including the reduction in gloss and color, and assess the material’s weathering performance.
