Water activity, usually represented as aw, is a measure of free, unbound water that can support microbial growth. It is represented on a scale of 0 to 1, with pure water having a value of 1. It is a commonly used parameter to determine the shelf life of edible products. The instrument used to measure this parameter is called a water activity meter, or sometimes an aw meter.

Dew point sensor
The aWLife is equipped with a high-precision dew point sensor that produces reliable results. Also called a chilled mirror sensor, it is in accordance with international regulations such as ISO 21787:2017. The aWLife has been designed with a fan to even out the headspace and a high-seal chamber with a gasket to ensure very little environmental interference.
Quick measurement time
Another important advantage of the dew point sensor is rapid analysis. Compared to other water activity measurement methods, dew point sensors provide the quickest measurements, thereby enabling increased sample throughput.
Temperature control
The aWLife can control and maintain sample temperature at any value between 15 and 50°C. Since water activity is temperature-dependent, the temperature control function of aWLife helps ensure repeatability and comparability.
Multi point calibration
The instrument supports calibration at up to 7 points, with options for single point and selective multipoint calibration methods. It is supplied with a set of calibration standards. However, because of the robust dew point sensor, frequent calibration is not required.
Data integrity
The software offers advanced security features, including access control and user management, in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11. This ensures data integrity and guarantees the non-modifiability of recorded data.
